Philippians 4:8-13

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Meditating in a quiet place.

If you are constantly thinking on and thinking about good things then it will come out in whatever you do. If you thoughts are always on pure things, always on love and praiseworthy things, then it will show in what you do and how you act. Meditate and pray on these things and God will bless us in these things and help us in this endeavor. Hint: These things are in the Bible.

Thinking and doing good all the time is hard, so find a Christian brother or sister that is doing this. You can learn from them and use them as an example just like Paul was to the Philippians. Do the things that are true, noble and just, pure and lovely and you will feel the peace that only God can give.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.

That is what the Philippians were doing, they were showing love and care to Paul.

11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Paul is again another example we can learn from; to be content is whatever situation we are in, rich or poor, full or hungry. This doesn’t mean that if we are poor we have to stay poor or if we are hungry we have to stay hungry. Just as Paul knows how to abound, we can abound in these things, we just shouldn’t be worrying about it. God loves us and wants to bless us and as we are ready, He will bless us with all the wonderful things that he has created for us. God will give us everything we need when we need it and we can be assured that He is watching out for us. We can relax and be worry free in whatever situation or stress we are going through in life. Give it up to God and He can do all things through us.

God is Good

What Cancer Cannot Do – Part 1

As you may or may not have known, my wife and I have been battling brain cancer for the past four months.  It has been a great struggle to balance work, care giving, and everything that we have to do in the home.  I don’t know why I have been trying to do it all by myself for so long, well, you can guess if you noticed the two year lapse in the posts, I have not been very diligent in my relationship with Jesus.

I finally remembered why I started this blog in the first place, that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  I am now trying to give it to God, allow Him to come in and lead us through all this.  It is a hard thing for me to do, to give up control, but I have to remember, He is the great Physician, not me, He is the great Comforter, not me.  It is all in His omniscient and omnipotent hands.

Recently, my mother-in-law forwarded me a pamphlet on 12 things cancer cannot do from the San Marcos Healing Rooms Ministry, and I thought I would share them here and to help me mediate on each one.

1. Cancer cannot separate me from the love of God.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us (me) from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Rom 8:35-39

(With Christ in us, we are MORE than those things that would want to conquer us, [i.e. tribulation, distress, persecution, etc.])

He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

1 John 4:4

This cancer may want to conquer my wife’s body or our love for one another or our relationship with Jesus, but it is not greater than God.  Through Jesus who has cleansed us with His blood and filled us with His Spirit we are more than conquers and greater than this cancer.  None of this will change the way God loves us or how much He loves us.  He is always there to help us through anything.

Jesus loves us

Philippians 4:1-7

1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved. 2 I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

Paul is reminding them of how he loves them and how he showed his love for them.  Now he is urging them and us to show love to one another and help our fellow Christian brothers and sisters.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

We should be very happy that we are in God’s hands and that our names are written in the Book of Life, that through Jesus, we have eternal life with Him.  Whatever hardships or difficulties we have in this world, we know that it will be over and we will have peace and abundant life with our Savior.  So, rejoice!

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men.

Not only do we help our fellow Christian brothers and sisters, we should show this love to all men and women.  The love and peace that God has freely given us, we can give to others and we would know a little of the joy that God has when He blesses us.

The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Be thankful for the peace and love that Jesus has shown you, there is nothing to be worried about.  God is with us even though we can’t feel it sometimes, but we will soon be able to see and touch Him and bask in His glory, and His peace, and His love. I can’t wait!

God is Peace

Philippians 2:1-4

1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Besides persevering with the hope that we have in Christ, another way to conduct ourselves, worthy of the gospel of Christ, is to be humble in life and to act accordingly.  Once again, this is something else that can help us is fullfilling the commandment to “love your neighbors as you love yourself.”

Because God first loved us, we can show that love to others and in doing so, glorify the Name of God.

God is love.
